Exhibit:                      Video Games

Benchmark:               Number one all about me

Skill:                           Hand eye coordination (hand strength)

I have played a lot of video games in my life and that lead me to the discovery of my love for computers.  Video games have also done a lot for me, I was born with some deformations in my hand and playing video games has allowed me to strengthen them up to a normal level.  Computer skills will be something necessary to proceed into the future, computers are such a big part of everyday life nowadays that if you do not know about them you are really hurting yourself for the future.

When I was born it was noticed that I had a deformation in my hands.  I am missing muscle in my hands, which caused a tendon and bone deformity.  I cannot bend my thumb like a normal person can I just do not have that ability.  This was a big problem for me, for many years of my life I was not able to tie my own shoes, or use buttons or snaps on clothing.  I just did not have the strength necessary to do it.  This was really hard to deal with, for the first two years that I went to school I would not use the restroom at school because I was afraid that I would not be able to button my pants back up and I would have to help someone help me.  I was really embarrassed, about the whole thing and I really just wanted it to change.  I started playing video games in about second grade and it took me a while before I was able to do anything with much success, but after playing it for a while I noticed that my hands were getting stronger and eventually I was able to do the things I could never do before.  I was able to undo and fasten buttons, along with snaps and I could tie my shoes.  Now I have been playing video games for almost ten years and I have developed normal hand strength along with the ability to actually be really good with my hands I developed hand eye coordination and I have had much success.  One of the most important things I learned from it all is that no matter what you can overcome anything.

I not only gained the ability of the full use of my hand, but I also gained hand eye coordination that improved my skill across the board. I now can type very quickly and I can manage things on the computer very fluidly, without much trouble.  I also can write more efficiently now, these things saved my life in school I can get my work done much faster than I would have ever been able to.  In the future this speed that I know have will allow me to move even faster when I multitask.  This efficiency is just what employers are looking for and it will give me a great edge.  Learning that you can overcome anything has been a huge help, it allows me to push myself and always get the best work done no matter what.
