Skills:                          Two Best pieces in Social Studies

In most of my social studies classes, I found myself getting bored.  It was just worksheet and book work for most of it.  When I hit Later American Studies, with Mr. Flint, my freshman year everything changed.  We got actual projects to do and I was so excited that I put an extreme amount of work into them to make them perfect.  They are honestly my best work because they are what I worked on the hardest.

In my freshman LAS class I finally enjoyed learning in my social studies classes, and that is where I did my best work.  One of the first projects I did was a newspaper about the 1920s.  Austin McRae and I did a lot of research on the 1920s and compiled a Newspaper that took a look back at the decade that was the 1920s.  I put a lot of hard work into it because it was one of the first fun things I had ever done in a social studies class.  It really shows off the creativity I have.  The second Piece I chose was also in the same class.  In this piece we explored the 1950s; this project caused me to read a poem as a beatnik and to serenade my class as Elvis.  This project made me enjoy Social Studies to the fullest; it made me push myself in new and creative ways.  I explained the culture of the 1950s in a fun way for my class to understand.

I was uninspired to push myself in social studies classes until I took that course.  It taught me, that I should always push myself, because it makes you enjoy it more.  Learning to push myself to do the best I can was an important lesson moving into harder classes.  I had to make myself standout in the crowd, and that I can and should carry into the future.  Making myself stand out through my creativity will allow me to excel in the future.
